(August 20, 2008) - Trip to Auburn Hills, Michigan!
I would like to give a special thanks to the members that took the time and made the effort to ride our Bus for Jobs and Fairness. These members don’t just talk the talk, they walk the walk and they are : John “Woody” Weis, Mike Agers, Matt Mueller and his daughter Claire, Diana Baron and her brother Bob, Larry Hinnah, Phil Catsoulis, Bryan Cookson and his daughter Brooke, Vernon Reeves, Kim Kassmann, Jackie Nicolas and her son Brad, Lisa Patterson, Phil Stanfield, Robert Colinares (who took lots of pictures), Danny Marquart, Tony Marquart, Robert Minardi, Robert Johnston, Doug Baumbach, Rich Barnhart, Phil Fangers and his wife Rochelle, and my daughter Miranda. We were lucky enough to be joined by a couple of Local 282 members – Judy Donaldson and Dave Busby. In addition, we shared our bus with eight members of Local 136 – Jeremiah and Anna Georges, Sheila, Larry, Larissa, and Devin Chandler, Teresa McCarver, and Cindy Sunkel. If you have a chance to thank any of them please do as their participation helped us make a powerful statement at Chrysler World Headquarters! Continue reading….[…]
(August 3, 2008) - WE NEED PARTICIPATION!!
I have an extremely important favor to ask. This local and its members are in the fight of our lives against the immoral decision by Chrysler to close the van plant. In the last several years Chrysler has sold 1.6 million vans in the United States and 275,000 in Canada. Those numbers provide the obvious answer as to which country has been most supportive of the Chrysler Corporation. Unfortunately, they have decided not to repay that support with loyalty but instead turn their backs on America and view us as only consumers. This decision will lead to the economic devastation of this areas small businesses, school districts, and of course JOBS! Continue reading….[…]

(July 25, 2008) - Algae to be Refined Into Non-Polluting Biodiesel!
ALGAE – THE HOLY GRAIL OF BIOFUEL?
Can algae – the green slime that forms on the top of stagnant pools – reduce greenhouse gas emissions and be the source of a new renewable bio-fuel? The Holy Grail in the renewable energy sector has been to create a clean, green process which uses only light, water and air to create fuel.
Vertigro Energy is a joint venture between Global Green Solutions and Valcent Products. Vertigro’s algae-to-biofuel technology mass produces algae and extracts algae oil. This oil can be refined into a cost-effective, non-polluting diesel biofuel. The algae derived fuel will be an energy efficient replacement for fossil fuels and can be used in any diesel powered vehicle or machinery. In addition, 90% by weight of the algae is captured carbon dioxide, which is “sequestered” by this process, contributing significantly to the reduction of greenhouse gases.
The Vertigro technology was developed in response to a huge unsatisfied demand for vegetable oil feedstock by biodiesel refiners and marketers. Biodiesel, in 2000, was the only alternative fuel in the United States to have successfully completed the Environmental Protection Agency required Tier I and Tier II health effects testing under the Clean Air Act. A U.S. Department of Energy study has shown that the production and use of biodiesel, compared to petroleum diesel, resulted in a 78.5% reduction in carbon dioxide emissions.

(July 18, 2008) - Contact Your Elected Officials!
I am asking all members and their families to take a little time and contact their elected officials regarding the announced plant closing of the Chrysler South Minivan Assembly Plant and the closing of both Integram St. Louis Seating and Dakkota Integrated Systems. This is a very important component of our drive to make all policymakers aware of this situation. Please mention that Chrysler will be continuing to make minivans, almost all of which will be sold in America while they lay off the American workers that serve in the military, build our communities, and pay the politicians salary! These officials were elected to represent Missouri citizens not runaway corporations!…….Continue reading […]

March 25, Tuesday - Flood, Update!
As of Tuesday March 25, 2008 our downtown union office is cleaned up and functioning though there is still a lot of work to do. This would not have been possible without the efforts of several members that pitched in to help I would like to thank Carol Straatmann, Diana Baron, Pete Knight, Robert Colinares, Robert Johnston, Tiffany Stephens, Eddie Williams, Steve and Jackie Nicolas, Derrick Moore who stopped by and even Mark Priest came by after his shift at Altivity.
We did lose the Financial Secretary’s desk, Computer Desk, Cadenaza, and our refrigerator. If anyone would like to donate a replacement for one of these items, please contact your local officials
Thanks again to everyone that came out and you proved that we are a volunteer driven, activist local that takes care of it’s own and others.
In Solidarity,
Darin Gilley
President, UAW Local 1760
